Whoa, okay, so this PlayStation thing caught my eye. And I’m not even sure why. Maybe I just like sales. Ah, who doesn’t? Anyway — wait, hang on — the Next Level Savings thing is happening and there’s this indie game sale too. Some of these games are going for, like, 75% off. Pretty wild, huh? Got me thinking about all those hidden gems we might be missing. And oh! There’s this horror game that has people freaking out. Goosebumps, anyone?
So, there’s this game, Outlast, kind of like the heavy hitter in the horror game world. It’s down to $5, which is, what, 75% off the usual $20? Quick math there, impressive, right? But seriously, if this piques your interest—and it should because, come on, who doesn’t love a good scare?—you gotta move fast. The deal ends on May 29 at 2:59 a.m. ET. Set those alarms, folks.
Not that I’m a huge fan of scary stuff (I hide behind cushions, let’s be real), but the game sets you up in Colorado’s mountains and there’s this creepy asylum thing. You’d think there’s nothing spooky about Colorado except maybe their altitude issues or whatever. Anyway, this asylum, taken over by Murkoff Corporation (sure, sounds legit—sarcasm much?), it’s all secrets and chills. Gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it.
Picture this, you’re Miles Upshur—journalist, rebel, thrill-seeker. So, he sneaks in, totally normal for a Thursday night, right? And what he finds, well, science and religion kind of mash into this terrifying mess. Personally, I’d nope out of there in five seconds, but that’s just me.
For those brave souls who dig Outlast, there’s a DLC called Whistleblower. Ties into the main story and pushes the scare factor up a notch. It’s $8.99, not on sale, but hey, if you’re already in for the scares, maybe it’s worth it for $13.98 combined? Decisions, decisions.
Oh, and a nod to its 2013 debut—critics liked it, Metacritic gave it an 80 from 59 reviews. I guess it delivers on its promise to scare the socks off players. But why do people seek thrills this way? No idea why I ponder this, but it sticks with me. To each their own, I suppose.
