Alright, buckle up, ‘cause I’m gonna take you on a little adventure through the world of Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow. So picture this — Vertigo Games and Maze Theory just gave us, well, kinda like a sneak peek. They’ve dusted off this old classic stealth series called “Thief” — yeah, from 1998, if you can believe it — and tossed it into the wild, wild world of VR. No more staring at a boring ol’ screen. We’re talking about full immersion here, people.
Anyway, these game folks over at the VR Developer Direct — I guess it was like a mini-convention or… whatever — they let us peek behind the curtain at their Rotterdam studio. Rotterdam! Can you imagine the energy? (Never been, but I like to think it’s buzzing.)
Oh, and there’s this video — now hang on, let me sidetrack a sec — you ever notice how some interviews just have that vibe where the crew’s all excited, sharing coffee tips and buzzing about the project? It was like that. We had voices, faces, real people. Eugenio Aguilar Oriani — cool name, right? — Nick Witsel, and the others chattered about what they’re brewing up. And hey, big news: Stephen Russell is back! He’s the guy who originally voiced Garrett, which, I dunno, made some fans go all teary-eyed, I bet.
The timeline is wild, though. It’s tucked between the original trilogy and that 2014 reboot thing. So, there’s this dude, Baron Ulysses Northcrest — sounds like he’s straight out of a Dickens novel if you ask me — ruling over everything with an iron fist and a not-so-healthy obsession with secret stuff. Enter our hero, Magpie — proper underdog tale, rising up from street scamp to legend. Classic, right?
In terms of gameplay, oh boy, there’s vaulting, sneaking, doing the whole Mission Impossible deal. You’ll be lockpicking your way to greatness, snuffing candles like some medieval Batman. Side note, I always find the idea of using candles as cover kinda funny but hey, it works. The game’s landing on Quest, Steam, and PlayStation VR2 sometime soon. No exact date though, which is kinda classic in the gaming world — they love to keep us hanging.
So there you go. I hope I didn’t lose you somewhere in my rambling train of thought!
