Man, have you ever stumbled onto something because you couldn’t stop thinking about it, even when you’re supposed to be doing something else? That’s basically what happened to me with Dropout. So, Dropout—yeah, it’s this comedy stream thing that used to be called College Humor. Anyway, there’s this show called Game Changer that’s just blowing up online, and it’s got everybody hooked. Sam Reich, who’s the big boss and host, keeps throwing these wild games at comedians. It’s chaotic but oddly intriguing. And my brain, for no reason, was like, “Hey, wouldn’t this make a rad video game?” I know, random, right?
So, I ended up chatting with Reich—I mean, virtually, but still. And I was like, “Hey, ever think about turning Game Changer into a video game?” I kid you not, he seemed totally down with the idea. Probably a good sign? He actually said they’re mulling over either a game from Game Changer or this other series, Dimension 20, which, confession: I didn’t even know much about. (Guess I should check that out.)
Reich was pretty clear that if they do go the game route, it’s gotta feel personal. Like, no outsourcing the dirty work. They want it to scream Dropout. But here’s the kicker—making games cost a ton. And it takes forever. Which I guess I knew, but hearing it said out loud? Wow.
So, I kinda pushed further: “Is this, like, some pipe dream or an actual plan?” Reich assured me they’ve got ideas bubbling away. Tiny web games they’ve done were kind of dress rehearsals. It’s like trying to speak French by reading menus—messy but eventually, you get there. I should know; I did that once. Failed epically but hey, I tried.
He’s sure there’ll be a Game Changer game at some point. There’s just this massive, annoying “when and what” hurdle to jump over first. Which is, like, everyone’s problem, right?
Oh, and by the way, Game Changer’s season 7 finale? It’s dropping on August 11. If I’m honest, no idea why I even remember this, but there you have it.
