So, here’s a little secret: I never actually played Bravely Default on the 3DS. Crazy, right? Everyone and their cat said it was almost as good as Final Fantasy. Anyway—squirrel moment—I stumbled into the Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster demo at PAX East 2025. Now I’m this clueless dude trying to analyze a remake with absolutely zero prior experience. Fun!
First impression? No dual screens. Weird. But hey, they did crank up the graphics to ultra-shiny turbo mode. Also, there’s this flashy new UI thing going on. Asked some Square Enix rep if they’d redo the second game, thanks to this snazzy style. Got a vague “maybe” that left me thinking I might be onto something. Or not. Who knows.
The whole timed demo setup isn’t really for heavy RPG story moments, so yeah, I skipped A LOT of dialogue. It happens. The combat, though? Wild stuff. There’s this Brave and Default thing. Brave’s basically like, “Go all out, but hope to survive after!” Default’s your cautious pal, letting you save turns for a major blitz later. Naturally, I just went Brave all the way—because why not expect disaster, right? You’ll probably have to think more strategically, but I’m just saying, the chaos option is there.
Didn’t toy with the job system, which sounds kinda neat. But overall? Super impressed. Totally kicking myself for missing it on 3DS, but this is my redemption arc. Seriously, do yourself a favor and check it out on June 5 when it hits the Nintendo Switch 2. Same day that bad boy hits the shelves. And scene.
