Alright, so here’s what I’ve got for you. Picture this – last year, some wild whisperings floated around about Apple maybe – just maybe – dipping their toes into VR motion controllers. And who with? Sony! I mean, that’s like pairing peanut butter and… sushi? Anyway, Apple wanted to cozy up with Sony for those PSVR 2’s Sense Controllers. Now, 9to5Mac jumps in saying, yep, that train’s still running, and we might hear something official next week. Or not. Who really knows with Apple, right?
So, get this – it’s not just about those fancy Sense Controllers. We’re talking PlayStation and Xbox controllers too – like the whole family. But here’s the thing – 9to5Mac isn’t 100% sure if all this will get its moment in the spotlight at WWDC next week or if it’ll be a “stay tuned” situation. Apple’s got this big shake-up for visionOS 26 coming anyway, along with tweaks for macOS and iOS. Sounds like a lot, but what do I know?
There’s a pic floating around of Hideo Kojima sporting the Vision Pro. I mean, did he color-coordinate his outfit with the headset? No clue why this popped into my head.
So here we are, Vision Pro – launched February 2024 – in all its $3,500 glory. Kind of feels like Apple tossed folks a Rubik’s cube and said, “Good luck!” It only plays nice with hand-tracking and some Bluetooth stuff like keyboards. Game developers have to either whip up brand-new magic or sprinkle hand-tracking in old games. More games on the App Store could be on the horizon – who’d complain about that?
But here’s the kicker – the Vision Pro isn’t exactly screaming “game console.” It’s like calling your fancy espresso machine a coffee pot – technically true, but you’ve missed the point. Yet, hinting at these PSVR 2 controllers seems like Apple’s big wink saying, “Maybe cheaper headsets with all the bells and whistles are on the way.” Maybe.
And oh, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg tossed in that Apple chatted up Sony in 2024 about joining forces. Odd, considering Apple had just sworn up and down that VR controllers weren’t their thing. Go figure.
Anyway – oh right, Monday, June 9th is when all this is supposed to unravel, starting at 10 AM PT. Catch it on Apple’s YouTube if you’re into surprises. Or tech drama.
