Hey, folks! So, I was just sitting here, sipping my coffee, when I stumbled upon some news that’s kind of a big deal if you’re into hoops and headsets. The 2025 WNBA season — yeah, it’s back this week. And guess what? Meta’s doing its Meta thing again with livestreaming games on Quest through the Xtadium app and that NBA Arena in Horizon Worlds. You know, the virtual place with all the avatars hanging out.
Anyway, it seems like they’ve lined up 20 live games. Not just regular games, but five are gonna be in that cool 180-degree video thing. Immersive, they say. But then I wonder — do I really wanna be that immersed? Like, up close and personal with the players’ sneakers?
So here’s the deal: It’s all happening in the Xtadium app if you’re in the US. They’re doing these watch parties too. Private, if you wanna be fancy, or public in the NBA Arena — which, by the way, is free on Horizon Worlds. I mean, how else do you gather your virtual crowd these days?
And starting May 27th, they’re unleashing some WNBA-branded avatar merch in Horizon Worlds. Honestly, I didn’t see that one coming — virtual swag? Who’s even buying this stuff? Maybe I should get with the times or something.
Of course, there’s a catch (isn’t there always?) with those pesky geo-restrictions. Some games might not show up for everyone, especially if you’re too close to where the action’s happening live. Blackouts, right? Just when I planned that popcorn party…
Here’s a messy list of when these games hit — jot it down or don’t:
- May 18, 3:00 pm PT, Minnesota Lynx vs. Los Angeles Sparks
- May 22, 5:00 pm PT, New York Liberty vs. Chicago Sky
- May 27, 7:00 pm PT, Immersive: Chicago Sky vs. Phoenix Mercury
- So on and so forth.
There’s plenty more, just scattered through summer. And don’t ask me why I memorized them — maybe I have too much time? But really, if your team’s playing, you’d remember too.
So, who’s excited? I mean, is anyone else feeling a bit like we’re living in some futuristic ballgame dream? Or maybe that’s just all the caffeine talking. Either way, grab your Quest, maybe hit that merch stand, and enjoy the hoops!
