Chrono Trigger Creator ‘Considering’ a Remake

So, Yuji Horii—yeah, the guy who helped make Chrono Trigger—dropped a little nugget recently. At this convention in Naples—you know, because all the cool gaming talk happens in Italy, apparently?—he said he’s thinking about a remake of this beloved SNES game. Fans have been screaming for it, like, forever. Heck, I remember when my buddy wouldn’t shut up about it. Anyway, it seemed like Horii was just chilling there and was like, "Why not?" Or maybe it was all some wild rumor. Who knows?

Chrono Trigger came out back in the SNES days, 1995 if my memory’s still good. It’s this epic time-traveling saga. You got Crono (no ‘h’), Marle, and Lucca hopping through time to save the freakin’ world. Not your average Tuesday, right? It was put together by this so-called "Dream Team.” That name always makes me snicker a bit. You got Hironobu Sakaguchi, who’s a big deal in Final Fantasy land, and Akira Toriyama, who gave life to Dragon Ball. It’s like the Avengers of gaming. And the music! Composed by Yasunori Mitsuda with some tracks by Noriko Matsueda and Nobuo Uematsu. If you don’t know these tunes, you’re missing out, trust me. They’re still playing in my head sometimes, like an old radio that won’t turn off.

Now, as for these rumors? They spun out of a translation mishap. Maybe someone’s language app was having an off day. But get this—at some point, Horii clarified that his words kinda went through a blender. Happens more than you’d think. HD-2D remakes like Dragon Quest 3 are a hit, so he probably thought, what’s another one? Seriously, the nostalgia wave is like… tsunami level now.

Horii did say he’s open to it. I think hearing fans nonstop probably gets in your head after a while. I mean, 2025 marks 30 years since Chrono’s debut. Kinda wild to think about. But Square Enix hasn’t stamped any official seal on this yet. And Horii’s busy. He’s got Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake going live in 2025. Plus, Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate is on its way. They’re drip-feeding details, little by little, like bread crumbs for us to follow. Keeps folks guessing.

Chrono’s anniversary is gonna be a thing through 2025. Perfect timing, if you ask me. Maybe Square Enix will roll the dice on this remake idea. It’s simmering, no doubt. But whether they’ll serve it up? Eh, time will tell. It’s like waiting for soup to boil while watching paint dry. Fun times!
